I am an artist located in New Jersey near Philadelphia and New York.
Jim graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida with a B.F.A in illustration. His work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide including New York, Florida and Japan and his illustrations have appeared in national magazines such as Adirondack Life, Delaware Today and IBM Systems. Online his work has been a feature of many digital publications.
Exploration of atmosphere and emotion is the essence of Jim Gunardson's work. Working in a style described as "stylized realism", Jim extracts the impression of the subject by visualizing its unique light, color and essential forms. Jim's interest in the outdoors, exploring and traveling have a direct influence on his work.
From 1998 to 2004 Jim lived in the Adirondack mountains of New York and exhibited at many shows in the region. Notably winning numerous awards at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and having a solo exhibition in Ticonderoga, New York.
In 2000, Jim won the prestigious Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks competition. His painting "Summertime" was used for the cover of the annual ACNA directory and the work was purchased by a board member of the New York Arts Council. Along with exhibiting his work, Jim has also served as a juror for art competitions.
Since 2004 Jim has exhibited and worked in New Jersey and has recently won an award for his painting "Birches". Most recently Jim placed 3rd in local plein air competition.
Over 35 paintings have been sold to private collectors world wide.
